Unbeknownst to many, Central Kenya is a rich tourist destination. From the highlands of Aberdare and Mt. Kenya to adventure packed Sagana, the coffee and tea estates of Nyeri and Murang’a and scenic waterfalls in Embu, Meru, Kiambu and Nyeri, you are never short of scenery and activities in this region. If you have been following my blog, you can probably guess today’s theme. Yes, you’re right. I have discovered a new hidden gem in the Mt. Kenya region that is worth exploring. I’m starting to give Christopher Columbus a run for his money. TravelWithEliud and let’s discover a new world of adventure! At about 219km or 3 hours and 50 minutes from Nairobi, a breathtaking facility lays in wait. Using the Nairobi-Nanyuki-Meru route, you will branch into an all-weather road just a kilometer past Timau Shopping Centre and after 11km you will arrive at Regency Mount Kenya View Hotel. The hotel is right at the gate of the famous Ngare Ndare Forest. Regency Mount Kenya View Hotel is a serene four-star hotel situated at the heart of Timau in a small town known as Ethi. The drive to the hotel offers beautiful scenery all through, as well as occasional wildlife sightings. The hotel has ample safe parking and a spacious well-manicured compound. On arrival you will be treated to a warm welcome by the host. One look at the reception and you get the message that you’re about to explore a gem. The hotel’s architecture is enchanting, making it look like a royal castle on top of a hill. The hotel currently has 18 rooms available for booking, which are offered as doubles, singles and family rooms with interconnecting doors. All the rooms have balconies overlooking the beautiful Mt. Kenya. The rooms on the lower deck overlook the mountain as well as the enchanting Ngare Ndare forest. The hotel also has a conference hall with a seating capacity of between 85-100 people that can be rented out for events or business workshops. Delicious meals are offered on buffet style and ala carte depending on group size. The hotel is also able to prepare halal and vegetarian dishes on request. Free reliable WiFi complements your stay. The hotel offers friendly prices as follows: 4,500/- per person on bed & breakfast; 5,500/- per person on half board and 6,500/- per person on Full Board. During your stay at Regency, you may enjoy board games such as, Ludo, Monopoly, Darts and Carom. You’ll also find a well set kids’ playground and a scenic swimming pool conducive for both adults and children. If you prefer bonfires they can be set up on request. There isn’t another facility around Mt. Kenya that offers a magical view of the mountain the way this one does. The landscape around the hotel is striking and the views of the sunrise and sunset are hypnotizing. Kate Williams got it when she said, ‘There is a reason why almost everyone has a sunset/sunrise photo! They touch something in us, they move us. Perhaps we absorb a piece of their magic to energize us for tomorrow…and why not?’ I’m not sure if the sunrise and sunset you watched left you with goose bumps, but I am sure you experienced something magical. If you have never stopped to appreciate this spectacular show of beauty, take a moment and try it today. You’ll thank me later. One of the outdoor activities available at the hotel is hiking the Ngare Ndare Forest. This lush indigenous forest offers waterfalls, blue pools and a 40ft high canopy walk. The forest has very old trees and lies undisturbed. It is home to the big five and offers a scenic hike. The blue pools offer a cold and thrilling swim to the adrenaline junkies while the chilling 450m canopy walk is enjoyed by the daring. If you’re on a day trip to Ngare Ndare Forest, stop and have lunch at Regency Mount Kenya View Hotel or book an overnight stay. If you are on safari from Samburu, this is a great stop-over for you. I highly recommend it. Until next time, keep travelling…........................
