Through tearful eyes I watch the sun go down the horizon majestically. It paints the sky with shades of red and pink, and I thank God that the day came and has gone. All the pain I went through. All the hurt I’ve felt. All the chances I lost. All the opportunities I ignored. Everything, gone. The colors offered by the sunset are symbols, each painting a message of hope for tomorrow. It’s easy to think that in no time those colors will be hidden in darkness, within the depths of despair in the night. Perhaps a symbol of the suffering that tomorrow could bring. Instead I prefer to focus on the pretty colors, to focus on the positive. When I look at the clouds behind me warmly lit by the sun trying to raise the last of its amber limbs over the rooftops, I get hope. The sky gets dyed pomegranate pink, the same color farmers look for during harvest time. This shows there is hope for tomorrow. All I think at that moment is how many opportunities I want to grab when tomorrow comes. It doesn't matter where this magical moment finds me. When I watch the sunset at the sea, I get lost in the rhythmic percussion of waves on the sand. My eyes stay steady at the horizon. My face aglow with the last orange rays before twilight beckons the stars. My lips evidently bear the semblance of a smile, just enough to portray that I am enjoying my thoughts, whatever they may be. This moment is priceless. I wouldn't trade it for anything. When watching it from a high point or cliff, with the hill sloping suddenly away, I imagine leaping off, getting falcon wings and settling into the sun's warm, painted bed. The sun dips behind the horizon, but the daylight is still lingered in the air as though it was accidentally left behind. The sunset is like the prelude to dawn, yet its majesty fills my mind with the most beautiful of dreams. As my eyes close to rest, I embrace the stars. My skin feels cool against the breeze, and when I wake up the sky will be radiant with the first kiss of the new day. To me, sunset and sunrise have the same impact. Immediately the rays hit the ground, I see a new chapter opened for me to read. I see another chance to prove myself. I see good things lined up for me to possess. As the sun lights up the horizon, it spreads its magnificent rays of light everywhere and the darkness fades away. The night lost once again and runs like a defeated king giving up his throne. No one can fight the sun. We can only watch helplessly as it drags us into a new day that we have been dreading or looking forward to for a long time. When I catch the sunrise, I exhale with relief. The air feels fresh and new; a gentle breeze caresses my skin. I feel so ready for the day. I feel blessed. I feel like my creator is tickling me. I watch as ribbons of golden sunlight spill onto the earth’s surface. The ground is a black silhouette compared to the brilliant gold sky. The dewdrops adorning the plants seems to glow with their own golden radiance. I can't keep calm. The excitement is beyond my control. I find myself saying a prayer for the day. It seems I notice the sun's beauty easily. I stare into the rising sun, as its rays burn my eyes. I don't look away. My eyes are glued to the beautiful pink and orange color of the sky. Kate Williams was right when she said, "There is a reason why almost everyone has a sunset/sunrise photo! They touch something in us, they move us. Perhaps we absorb a piece of their magic to energize us for tomorrow…and why not?" I don't know if the sunrise and sunset you watched ever left you with goose bumps, but I am sure you felt something. If you have never stopped to appreciate the sunrise or sunset, take a moment and kindly try it today or tomorrow. You’ll thank me later. Kindly click on "comments" below to share your thoughts
